Over View
The Ishitani Residence is a modern Japanese-style building located in Chizu historical area of Chizu town and designated as a National Important Cultural Property. The Ishitani family has played an important role in the development of the local community throughout the early modern and modern period.
The family’s original trade name was Shioya. They have moved to Chizu from Tottori Castle town in the beginning of the Genroku era (1691) to set up the headquarter here. Since then, every next generation owner – Denshiro, Denkuro, Denzaburo – continued to contribute to the success of family business. Denshiro made a great renovation of his own residence in Chizu town over a period of about 10 years from 1919, and this large wooden house is now the Ishitani Residence.
